As some of you know, I am a Fire Captain for CDF, actaully now it's CAL FIRE but I can't bring myself to keep calling it that. We are California's fire department for those of you across the nation. We are the third largest fire department in the nation and the largest all risk fire agency.
Anyway, I have been assigned to the fires in San Diego County, specifically the Witch Fire. The fire is currently 210,000 acres and still going. I am on a fire engine strike team, five fire engines and a leader. We got here Sunday about 1800, and today for the first time, we were relieved from the line to come to a hotel to get some sleep, a shower and some time away from the death and destruction. And my first thought was to come to this site to get my mind off of the fires and to something more enjoyable and relaxing.
It may not seem like much, but I'd like to thank all of you and especially Joe Cimoch for this site and the joy of having something to get my mind off things.
We will only be off until 0400 tomorrow morning, since we have to be at briefing at 0600, then back on the line for what will hopefully only be a 24 to 48 hour shift.
Thankfully this was all AFTER the Hollister Rally!!
