Eucs grow in dry climates. So folks plant lots of them.
There is a myth here in San Diego that the Eucalyptus trees were planted so the Santa Fe Railroad would have ties. Rancho Santa Fe was a tree farm. But the rails were already in by then. I think they were planted as a fuel source for wood-burning steam engines. The wood burns like coal, hot hot hot. Plus the leaves are full of pitch. Only now they are just a fuel source for brush fires, and act as tinder to get the houses started.
