Here is some useless information that I discovereed by mistake.
It sort of applies.
If you hook up a full wave diode bridge with the output the correct polarity to the device being powered. You can hook up the source voltage either way. The bridge is looking for AC, so it sorts out the DC for you, the input polarity doesn't matter.
