The New Yorker article reminded me of my Dad, who was an original owner of a right-hand drive Amphicar, that he purchased in late 1967, before the firm went bankrupt. Well, among other great adventures that we had with the car, during the gas crisis during the carter administration (lower case intended), there was a sign on the Amphicar that stated: "ENERGY CRISIS SOLVED... THIS CAR RUNS ON WATER".
Of course, as you and PT Barnum are aware, there is a sucker born, every minute.
