I bought a mig welder about 10 years ago. I practiced on scrap until I felt comfortable about doing it for real. It is not that difficult. MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas. For sheet metal you can get by with inner shield wire which has a core that gives off the gas when welding, but will sometimes leave pin holes in the weld as the gas escapes the molten metal. The true mig with a small bottle of gas is a joy to use. You will use a welder more often than you think, it,s a great tool to have.
