Tinkering on the 57 W-100, it really needed a tune up. The points were in real bad shape. The truck ran, but poorly, with not much power.
I put in new plugs, points, condenser, rotor, cap and wires. Got them all adjusted and went to check the timing. I marked 6 degrees BTDC on the main pulley and aimed the light. The mark was way off. I started rotating the distributor to bring the mark in and the truck wont stay running when it is anywhere near the timing mark. So I played with timing it by ear, Then I could keep it running, but no better than before the tune-up. and then the timing was WAY off the mark. I double checked that #1 is at TDC when the rotor is at #1 wire, I double checked that the wires are in the right order and going to the right cylinders. I am wondering if the timing chain might have jumped a tooth or ten? Anyone have any insight on the 315 Poly doing that?
Thanks,
Tim
