A few minutes in Phosphoric acid dissolved the corrosion, leaving flakes of chrome. Then, a couple seconds against a wire wheel took off the flakes, and any dirt.
Then, I blew it. I went ahead and brushed on a couple coats of high- build polyester primer. It didn't fill well, and globbed in areas where it was un-needed.
Files took off the excess very well- files won't cut chrome, so they only take the fill down to where is is supposed to be.
Then I mixed up a tiny batch of bondo, like I should have done to begin with. More filing, and more bondo, some primer and some aluminum spray paint.
They look OK, not show quality re-chromed. But it's all reversible with stripper, for re-chroming at some later date.
Too bad my plan to have a niece reach through and screw the Dodge emblem on won't work. There just ain't no way to get at the back side of the nose piece. So, a couple dabs of Poly-urethane caulk/adhesive ought to hold it on. Vul-Kem to the rescue.
