I've got several classic cars in storage, that only get out on the roads once or twice a year. Only as a precaution, before i put them away for the winter months (from November -> March/April) do i put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder; and install some old spare spark plugs. I probably wouldnt need to do it, i'm just concerned about dry piston rings.
Starting them back up in April is usually a chore, since it has to burn out all the oil that was poured into the cylinder (which is why i install old plugs, to prevent gumming up good plugs).
I have heard some people say that oiling the cylinders can cause large carbon build up in the cylinder heads; but i've never noticed this on any my vehicles (or atleast to a degree to be concerned about).
