Oh I do, but trust doesn't tell me the reason? Really, I want to know...
In my auto shop class (in 1897) we were taught that method, turn on the headlights and disconnect the battery on a running vehicle, as an quick way to determine if the alternator was producing enough to keep the motor running. I've always done it that way in the field to see if a dead battery was caused by a bad battery or a bad alternator and have not had a problem doing that on a pre-computer vehicle.
Just want to know what happens to cause an issue.
