The shear pin is the weak point regardless of cable

EVERTHING else in the system already "exceeds the capacity of the shear pin".

I suspect the previous owner's advantage of the 5/8" was availability- that he got it cheap.

The disadvantage is tough handling it, weight, and less footage on the spool.
