96 35004x4 auto trans, no first gear

193k mi. no 1st gear even if you pull shifter down. starts out in second and shifts normally after sluggish take off. has anyone had or fixed this problem without removal and/or rebuild? have not tried anthing yet such as fluid change, ETC. also no problems whatsoever until this. Thanks, BB
