In my quest to learn about and find PW's and M-37's in my area, I talked to some volunteer fire guys and to some motor pool mechanics at the forestry dept. here, as I see lots of old PWs in backwater fire stations. Two miles from my house was a little two bay fire station with a buff M-37 in it. I tried to buy it years ago but was told it was "state of VT property" not the vol fire dept. One day this year it was gone...chief said back to the forestry dept.
Seems (as you may know) many old military trucks were used up here as brush rigs by the volunteer firefighters...since the govt had surplus, the local guys got these m-37's free to use...according to the forestry shop, they have been getting them back from the locals over the last few years. When I asked what happened to them, I was told that most were given to the junk yards since they couldn't sell them due to regulations...One guy I talked to gave two m-37s to his buddies kids to beat around on; claimed his niehbor's yard was a "junk" yard! So I will check to see if any escaped the crusher. Maybe get my yard called a junk yard by someone other than my wife...if it gets me a free PW!
