Tim, I had the same thoughts,because I have a few lying around too and I needed a centered housing a few months ago. I think the problem is not in the welding but it's the warpage that is caused by the welding that may cause the tube not to be straight after the work. I have this problem evrytinme I weld a driveshaft. Start out straight them weld , then it's not straight I bit the bullet and bought a centered housing. my 02
