But be forwarned that diodes do cost you a volt or so- it may be a bit weak with the diode in circuit.
A 1.5 amp load aint much, just buy the diode with the biggest wires. Then hook it up temporarily, and check for voltage. Just to see if it is hooked in the right direction.
But yunno, a decent "full wave" charger has a diode bridge assembly as the last piece before the wires leave the box. And even a half-wave charger has a diode too. So maybe your battery has had it? Or do they use such a cheap diode it leaks back?
