WDX trans

I bought a 47 WDX and got a trans in the deal. Only thing, it wasn't installed. I'm not sure which trans it is. I'm restoring the truck to stock power but I understand the early FFPW trans were non-synchro. Should I be installing a later, synchronized trans? Install the non-synchro? Is this even an issue? I've never driven a non-synchro so I'm not even sure what the issues with them are, assuming there are any.

Anyone have any preferences?

I'm in N. VA , near Winchester if anyones close. thanks.
