1956 was the changeover, and some trucks got the scalloped stake pockets, and others got the third series bed.

I would post your VIN number here and ask what other owners with VIN numbers close to yours have for a bed.

If you end up with a truck that is late enough that it should have a 3rd series bed, then those are much easier to find, though the fenders are still hard.
