About 6 years ago I towed my son's Honda Accord behind my 2000 Dodge Dakota from Northern Idaho to Southern Idaho. The trailer had brakes, but the Dakota had not controller for those brakes. All went well on the way down, but on the way back it changed. The right rear tire on the Dakota blew out at 70mph and even though the trailer was empty, I lost control of everything, jacknifed, went off the shoulder which dropped about 8', rolled 1 1/4 times, totalling the Dakota, with the trailer still attached by the safety chain. My wife and I survived it with no injuries, and the good thing is it moved me into the purchase of my first Dodge Cummins Quad-Cab. A bigger, heavier, properly equipped tow vehicle would have been easier to keep under control.
