I have two similar size vertical compressors (one US General and one Campbell Hausfeld)and I've just left them bolted to the shipping pallet and setting on the floor. I know they tell you not to because it's top-heavy and can tip over, but it seems pretty stable and we never have earthquakes here. If you have rigid piping for your air system, definitely use a short rubber hose to connect the compressor to it so as to isolate vibration. Get a well-made hose from an industrial hose place because it will be under pressure all the time. Of the two compressors, I like the US General better because it's considerably quieter. Both have been reliable. I think in the "consumer" units nowadays, the Ingersolls are just OEMed from China like everybody else, but they have some huge old Ingersolls in the mines around here, 400 HP and up and tens of thousands of CFMs. The newer installations all use rotary screw compressors rather than piston types. We have a 60 HP Quincy unit for the mine tour and it works real well. Most of the noise comes from the cooling fan.
