bad piston

I have this motor,(251) that i bought to hopefully put in my flat fender but one of the pistons, the bottom of the piston on one side is broke off, what caused this and what is the easiest fix. Note from what i can see the cylinder is not scratched a bit and the rod don't appear bent this is looking in from the bottom, is it possible to just get a piston and rings take the head off, hone it and put a new one in. thanks in advance joe
