This isn't a great picture, but you get the idea. It's weighted on the bottom so if it gets knocked over it'll always roll back upright. The wick has a guard around it to mostly keep the wind from blowing it out. I have an old rusty one somebody gave me, but I never tried to get it working. They were used in the days before flares and battery-powered flashers.
