Paul:
Sorry you take it that way. I tried to clarify that I was talking about the huddled masses. THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE, and I am well aware of that. This is a place where a lot of the GOOD people hang (and I'm NOT sayin this as a suck up).
The help you gave me was VERY MUCH appreciated and I truely hope I can reciprocate some day. I to go out of my way to help people. Some times it's appreciated, but more often than not, it's not. It's actually expected, and NEVER returned.
I once caught hell because I offered someone the use of my truck for as long as needed, but asked if they'd leave with a full tank as that's how I was giving it.
I've had trucks most of my life. I was everybody's friend come April & May (moving season). I NEVER asked for anything in return, but come time when I HAD to move, I couldn't find a sole for help. Of all the times I've moved in my life, well, I don't even need one hand to count the times I had help.
I've often stated here that the majority of the people that frequent this site are pretty DAMNED DECENT folk. Not like the huddled masses ya deal with on a daily basis. IMHO, a step above (and that's a GIANT step too).
Hell Paul, I'm more than half serious when I was talkin about as many of us as possible get together, buy up a bunch of land and start a cult/commune/retirement village, separate from the huddled masses.
I assure you Paul, that with you and most of the people from this site (I've met some in preson, talked to others on the phone or thru email) I wouldn't hesitate to give the shirt off my back if asked for (and not even asked for if needbe).
I also realize that today more than ever (with the exception of the great depression), more & more people are wrapped up in the day to day business of basic survival. Still, that is no excuse for bad behavior. Often, ignorance & stupidity are 2 different things, but also often, they run hand in hand.
I often get "Boy, your pretty different than I expected, your actually a nice guy." I used to hate that when dating. To me, the BEST gift I can give a person is my friendship. Unfortunately from what I've seen more & more, I'm in the minority.
Maybe it has sumpthin to do with people bein more crowded than ever? I don't know. I have had my hand broken when I stuck it out to offer assistance (literally too, along with other body parts). I still offer it though and will do so until I die as that's my choice. I can't see being any other way. My wife is the same, which is probably one of the reasons (of many) that I married her.
Again Paul, I'm REAL sorry that the full gist of my post didn't get across. That I hold the people here in a higher regard than the general public, cause let's face it, to the masses, we're all dinosaurs that should be extinct. Boy, this is more serious than I like to be, for longer than I like to be. Sorry guys.
Later
