A 2WD TH400 can be converted to a married t-case. I just did this with my 2WD BOP bell housing TH400, and hooked it to a 203 range box by changing the tail shaft and using a factory 203 adapter. The rear of the TH400 main case is the same, 2WD or 4WD, and different tail shaft housings or adapters are used depending on application. The tail shaft has to match the tail shaft housing (2WD) or adapter (4WD), so for example, a tail shaft for a 203 is different than for a 205. There are at least two different TH400/205 adapters.

A number of people who bought TH400 bread trucks for the 4BT have sold the Cummins/TH400 adapter stuff, although I understand it is designed to tilt the engine a few degrees, if you care.

As you may know, Jeep also used a TH400 married to a Dana 20 ('70s Commandos?), and the bread truck TH400s could be adapted using the Jeep tail shaft, tail shaft adapter, and Dana 20.

While the 700r4 has a slightly lower 1st, and OD 4th, it is essentially a TH350 and does not have nearly the beef of the TH400. Rather than praying the 700r4 would stand up to the torque of the 4bt, I would just use a TH400 and be done with it. I would also be surprised if the low stall 13" six bolt TH400 diesel converter could be used in a 700r4, and anything smaller means more heat and less life span.
