Rear hub question,

The left rear hub innards on my ffpw look normal, like my parts book, on the passenger side with the large nut, etc.

However, on the driver's side rear hub, instead of the large nut, it appears there is only a threaded sleeve screwed on to the threaded spindle, no nut at all???

Can anyone tell me what's going on there?
