Leafspring Question

I measured the front spring where the axle attaches on our '49 Flat Fender. There was 4.75" between the top of the spring and the bottom of the frame. The spring shows very little arch to it. Can anyone else measure theirs? I'd like to know if we need to replace them with new ones from Steve Fowler.
