I've heard persistent stories of problems with the 6spd, to the extent Dodge is going to quit using it. The NV5600 has 5th direct, 6th is 0.73:1. The closer ratios in the lower gears would permit a lower diff ratio and still permit decent lower gear performance.
What I find odd is that Eaton/Fuller has a all synchro 6spd (FSO-6406A) rated at 660 ft-lb that wieghs about the same as the 5600 (~360 lb), why doesn't Dodge use it if the 5600 is so troublesome? There's even an FSO-8406A, same weight and size, that is rated at 820 ft-lb.
