I would like to get as much input as I can regarding painting my M37. First off all I've personally never painted anything before, don't have any equipment, booth, etc... but i'm not looking for a show stopper job either -- just want to protect the truck and for it to look half way descent.
I intend the truck to be used as a daily driver. The problem I'm having is that there is a 1001 opinions but no real concensus. Most Paint guys only recommend their stuff which only muddies the water as far as I'm concerned.
The truck has only some very minor surface rust in the knicks and scratches it's endured under other owners. I am interested in POR-15, AG 111, and evn Zero Rust. Por-15 seems to be the most plausible since it can be applied by foam brush without marks (so they say). However, I still would need to use their special primer to accept a topcoat of some sort and probably clear on top of that for UV and Paint protection.
I'm not into this aspect so I don't have any idea of what I should do -- either it requires expensive tools to apply, can't be used with other mediums, etc... it's got my head spinning.
I've even been taking a beating from some guys because I'm open when it come to color -- they are military preservationist who say I have to use #24087 OD which is okay if its durable. Just don't want to be rodoing this thing any time soon.
I'm looking for the quickest, easiest, and of course the most cost effective way to do this job.
If you think it's a job best left to a professional, don't be afraid to say so!
Thanks!
Tim
