That is a 9 point star signiying the truck was issued to the 9th Army Service Command ( western US, hdqtrs in Salt Lake City, UT.)
That and the unit markings were what I found after sanding down a couple coats of farmer applied paint !There were 8 service commands in the USA during WW2, starting with the east coast. The 9th served the western 8 states and Alaska. It was the support arm of the US Army.
