I needed the bearing at the top of the steering column tube. It was a ball bearing with a solid inner race which fit around the shaft and a solid outer race which was pressed into the end of the steering tube. They were ball bearings - not tapered. The top of the steering tube is slightly flared out to receive the ball bearing. Does that help?
