I have an '01 2500 and towed an 18,000 lb load to New Orleans. Had no trouble towing it. There were a couple hills I could not fully maintain speed on but for the most part did well. I was pulling a 29' bumper pull and the rest was in the bed. I don't recall exactly how the weight was distributed but worked OK. If you were going to tow that much regular I think it would be wise to do a torque converter/valve body upgrade.
