The snow's all gone here in Wallace, but the truck with the T-case PTO (a barely-driveable residue of a '52 REO pole-setting truck) is at my cabin and there's a 4700' pass between here and there. It's still snowing up at that level and has been off and on for the past few weeks. In a few weeks I may try to get in the long way (up the creek from the Joe), but based on how much snow there still is at 3200' on this side, I know there's no way to get up from the bottom right now, even in an M35 fully chained up. There's some dark shady holes where the road gets drifted over and it melts real slow unless we get a warm rain, which we haven't gotten.
I looked my PTO over pretty good when I first got the truck, though it's solidly encased in dirt and oil. I don't remember seeing two oil ports. I know I only saw one oil tube. Since the port I'm familiar with is on the suction side, I'm not sure what the other one would do. I can see having two different ways to hook up the suction tube for different applications, but if that was the case, the unused hole would be plugged, and it looks like both of yours used to have plumbing connected to them. What did yours come off of?
I suspect that for short-term use like raising and lowering a dump bed, you could get by forever without the oil pump, but as long as you have it and all it takes is some plumbing to hook it up, you might as well do so. One thing I can do is look at the T-case on my truck here and see if there's a fitting at the bottom for the oil tube.
