Brake dust??

I have a new 2007 Dodge 2500 quad cab, 4x4, heavy duty with cummins 5.9. After only a 1000 miles the front rims are coated in a heavy layer of brake dust. I do not abuse or drive it hard. Any ideas? Is this normal?/
