Tom,
You are right, a true Detroit has NO clutches. Detroit are dependable and about bomproof (as are the ARB's). I disagree with the use of the detroit in the rear however. No offense, but its old school to think of the Detroit as the only choice in the rear. They do get squirrely in slick (ice, snow) at times but are totally usable. Also, to turn sharp, unlock rear ARB, allows sharper turning, no pushing - look at the competition Crawlers - this is what almost all the top guys are now doing.

Here is another demonstration and my favorite for thinking outside the box. With my rig on dry pavment, dirt, rock whatever with the front arb on , I can turn in less distance then the length of the rig. Spool the front open the arb in the rear. Drive down the street at 10 mph. Lock up left rear cutting brake while mashing the skinny pedal to the floor and crank the wheel. As long as you keep it mashed it turns quicker then rear steer. If you get scared and lift you will proablly roll, keep in it and it comes around quick. For snow wheeling, it is the best for side hill sections. Pipe it and set a slide with the cutting brakes and surf the side slide. For really hauling rumpus flattracking on dirt roads I always run locked front and open rear. Get the "drift". This is just for fun of course....all those opposed to fun....speak up..........ah.....now.
