It's not fun to admit this but I know those marks well. With out a doubt that is the work of a loose pinion nut. I have never done the diffs on a pw (mine or someone elses). But I did a gear change in a customers 95 mustang a while back. Some how some way I never tightned the pinion nut enough to crush the crush sleve. And well you can guess that during the test drive I figured this out quickly. The carrier looked just like that.
