No argument with the diesels.
He seemed to want to keep it an in-line gasser and I've had many decades of good luck with these motors, more low rpm torque than any gas motor unless you add 200 cubic inches. There are many Jeep/Mopar sixes with hundreds of thousands of miles on them. There are millions of these motors on the road and their durability is legendary.
Personally I'd rather see a 318 Poly in there, but I have no issues with the Jeep motor. It was the last American I-6 survivor to meet smog and that is what killed it, smog and CAFE regs. The slant 6 and other in-line sixes all died off years ago. Mopar kept it alive as long as they could, but it takes a high reving V-6 design to pass smog these days. That's OK for the highway, but bad for low speed torque.
