Older than our 230's, engines had something called a 'priming cup. They looked like an oil cup with a valve screwed into the cylinder head, like in that hole over #6. One for each cylinder. At cold start, you would fill each cup with gasoline, then open the valve to let x much flow into the cylinder. Close the valves, and yank the crank. Before chokes were invented?
