I don’t have much choice. With the sizes of clothes I wear fit more often than not seems to win out over quality or country of origin. Martie hates that I always want the $40.00 and $50.00 western shirts. But those are about the only shirts that I can wear comfortably. I have never been able to wear Red Wing work boots, as I have never found a pair that fit correctly. For work boots, I go to Farm & Fleet and get the $100.00 logger boots, which are probably a lot cheaper both dollar wise and quality wise than the name brands, but they fit me really good and they still wear the Made In U.S.A. labels both on the box and on the boots. I have a half dozen or so western boots. All but one of those were made in the U.S.A. And, I recently bought a pair of Carolina work boots that are marked Made in U.S.A. and look to have some promise.

When I find something in a store I like, and then see that it is made outside the U.S., I usually voice my opinion loud enough that all around me can hear. I was disappointed when I found out that I could not buy a Lee StormRider at the farm store to replace the one I had in the 70’s. I found a NOS one on ebay at a fair price. Most NOS ones found there in size 50L go for about $200.00. I guess they have kind of become the “Power-Wagon” of denim jackets.

Some places will listen when you complain that their goods are being bought/made/designed offshore. Recently a small local company, who makes concrete sculptures, decided to cut jobs and move their manufacturing operation to China. The local community went absolutely berserk. It was all over the TV, radio, and newspapers for months. People were writing emails and sending letters by the thousands:

The company (probably in fear of going completely under) finally compromised and partially reversed its decision: http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2006/02/22/news/local/doc43fc0aa2ed13f485677370.txt

Kind of like Coca-Cola’s ill-fated decision several years ago to sell “Pepsi” in a Coke can.

Now, where can I find a gas station that sells only fuel refined from Texas crude?
