WAY OT: Fuel Pump

My buddy put a 2001 Fuel injected Chevy V6 engine in a 1980-somethin' Toyota pickup. He needs to mount a fuel pump somewhere, but I really don't know where and neither does he. How do in-line electric fuel pumps work out? Are they any good? It seems to me that they would want to overheat or get bashed by rocks/sticks/roadkill. Anyone had a good or bad experience? Any good brands?
