Rather than giving a bunch of opinions that may cause someone to do the wrong thing, let's point folks to the best available source of information. Read the Forum Disclaimer and see if you might be liable for bad advice given here.
So far in this thread, brakes were not mentioned. I don't have a CDL and I know about brakes.
Go to the DOT Brochure in the link below. Download it and print it out. Read it and re-read it until you know what all the terms mean. The DOT brochure barely covers the subject. Experience is required. Find a friend with knowledge instead of opinions and study the trailering issue. It can be a matter of life and death.
And if you don't want to take the trouble to do it in the best, safest way - please post the dates, times, and routes you will be taking so I can keep my three grandchildren away from there. I love them so much.
