I spent about 10 hours chasing down parts today . I managed to get the adapter plate after hitting up about 10 shops . Of course the guy who turned one up was the most expensive .
I was all set to pick up a core in Washington and rebuild the thing . I figured I could get away with a mild bore job and 20 thous oversized slugs . That got tossed out when I started to look into new cranks and oversized bearings .
Anyways after talking to a few diesel builders I realize I need a manual . After talking to my Cummins part guy I realize I REALLY NEED A MANUAL . When I asked what parts from a 6bt fit on a 4bt the guy did not have a clue .
Does a water pump from a 6bt fit a 4bt ? Does the starter ? Things got worse when I asked for a price on a rebuild kit for a 4bt and they were unable to find such an item .
250 bucks a piston
200 bucks for a water pump
By the time I had the consumables priced out I was over 2300 bucks .
Add in the price of a core , hot tanking , boaring , transportation and I am looking at some large change.
Soooooooo if someone out there knows were I can get a cheap copy of the 4bt manual .please let me know .
Bruce
And thanks again Jonas .
