Trailer capacity is measured by the axles. So if your trailer has two axles at 3500lbs than it is 7000lbs. But that is weight of trailer and load. So together they need to weigh 7000lbs of less. Now my trailer is also 7000lbs GVWR and I do wow my m37 winch model on it. I know it is slightly overloaded but my 03 GMC 2500 has no problems with it at all. I know all of this to be true. And I am a class A CDL holder.
