If he was only dealing locally, his reputation would catch up with him before long. The closest I came to doing that was I advertised a factory-new 440 short block for $400 but somehow it got in the want ads for $40. Obviously, a ton of people called, and I had to explain it was a mistake. As it was, everybody knew $400 was still a good price and the first guy who got there was happy to get it for that. I also once advertised a 1986 honda car with a blown motor for $350, but for whatever reason it ended up in the want ads as a 1996, which also generated a lot of calls. All I could do is tell them it was my mistake and that it was really an '86. Somebody bought it anyway.
Ads can have typos, but what would really steam me, as as it did you, is if I talked to the guy on the phone and then when I showed up, he raised his price.
