OT- 2500 vs 3500 trucks

I am in the market for a new tow vehicle. I currently have a 99 2500 360 4x4 longbed and I am looking at a 2004 Dodge Cummins/6 speed, 4x4, Quad Cab/Short Bed. My question is what are the differences between a 2500 and a 3500 single rear wheel truck?

Oh- what kind of mileage do you get while towing? The truck has 3:73 gears.
