I had a 1950 Desoto with what they called Fluid Drive. If I remember right the tranny was a M7. You could shift thru 3 gears on the tree or (again memory) put it in third take off and at a good speed let off on the throttle and it would shift again (something like that). Stop and not have to use the clutch. It was a dog, but the first car I ever had legally on the road so I thought it was great.
I had to pull the M7 to remove the engine for rebuild. I asked a old mechanic how much the tranny weighed. He told me about 50-60 pounds. Ha!, I can handle that easily. Got under the car and started to pull the tranny back. All of a sudden it was on my chest pinning me to the ground. I could not move it, no room to get it off me, finally somehow dumped it off my chest on the floor. Ha!, turns out it was over 150#. I was not hurt but bruised and scratched up. I still remember that M7 on me like it happened this afternoon.
