I just took apart my 56 FFPW frame and separated the inner rails because of this rust expansion. I managed to remove all the rivets and cut the welds at the front crossmember. The inner liners came out easily and I replaced the bottom third of it with new flanged metal. The outer frame is now in to get blasted and expoy primed. I have repaired the web in spots where it had thinned down excessively due to rust. I let it cool slowly and only welded and couple of inches at a time. When I get the inner liners back in and rebolt all the connections I plan on adding a fish mouthed outer plate of 1/8" thickeness to each side of the frame. The piece needs to measure at least 4 feet long to span the cab mounts and critical stress areas in the frame rails. This might cause an increased stress load at the rear cross menber but I don't plan on ever loading the truck to max again. Terry.
