The products are possibly compatible with each other. Make sure that your new grease uses the same type thickener as your old grease (lithium, calcium sulfonate, etc) Also, as a general rule, stay with the same brand as was the old. Next look for a NLGI Service Classification on the grease tube. LA = mild duty chassis, LB = severe duty chassis, GA = mild duty wheel bearing, GB = moderate duty wheel bearing, and GC = severe duty wheel bearing.
I use a calcium sulfonate thickened #2 synthetic grease rated LB/GC. It's a bit on the expensive side, but is really good at staying put, and not washing out.
