Most factory carbs I've ever seen were a gold-ish plated die cast zinc/aluminum alloy (white metal). Next were the un-plated alloy. The only painted carbs were cjeap rebuilts- cheaper to spray on a coat than to actually clean it. My guess on the wwII era would have been the whitish/silver/zinc unplated look. Aluminum paint would be good, til the gas eats it.
