Eaton 2 speed axle question....

Is the number stamped on the top of the case on a Eaton two speed (on the boss just above the lockout solenoid) the tall gear ratio? I have a '56 Dodge with a Eaton two speed, and it has 6.88 stamped on top, and a '55 IHC with the same axle, but 6.17 stamped on top.
