I don't surf much anymore, but here are my recomendations:
1 use swinging pedals and a hydraulic clutch
2 87-91 bellhousing for sM 465 tranny and married t-case, crossmember under adapter.
3 60-62 bellhousing with ears on housing if you keep the stock NP 200 t case and use a SM 420 tranny. You can make brackets to use a hydraulic slave on any chev b'housing. I adapted the 60's dodge cylinder to a mid 60's mechanical linkage b housing.
4 360 or 318 Dodge motor works good with short pre 71 water pump, 60's b housing w hydro clutch, NP 420 or 435 tranny. 4.89 gears are mandatory for good highway performance with either.
5 I have a WC53 with a 360 and a C1PW with a 350, and both have worked well for 5 + years. Drew Reed has an M37 with a 360 which is very nicely done.
6 A 392 Hemi would be unique.
