Perhaps the confusion of 4x2 Carryalls stems from the use of several 4x2 1941 VC Dodges and station wagons in military service. Chevrolet also had similar vehicles in the late 30's.
There is reference made to a WC-48 T-112 1/2 ton 4x2 Carryall. S/N's were W-2054363 to W-2054736 (374 built). There was also Panel Bodies WC-49 T-112 1/2 ton 4x2 built. S/N's W-245115 to W-245122 (8 built). These are listed as 1942 models. What I don't know is if they used the VC-6 type front end sheetmetal or if they used the 1941 WC style sheetmetal.
The 2 1/2 ton 6x4 GMC was the CCW 353 (as opposed to the 6x6 CCKW). These were enclosed cab models (no evidence in my books of a ragtop CCW). No winch. Front axle was a solid I-beam. Quote "except for the dead axle, it shared all other mechanical compenents, including the (engine)". I would presume this to mean the transfer case was the same. In addition, Studebaker made a 6x4 version of their 2 1/2 ton 6x6 in both closed and open cab (called the Model US 6x4, as opposed to the 6x6 called the Model US6). International also made a 6x4 version of the duece, called the M-5 6x4. I can only find photos of it with a closed cab.
