The "S" series 1962 shop manual covers MU2 and LU2. Send your address and I'll copy the 5 pages. The manual says: The worm shaft must have 1/64" to 1/32" end play to allow for expansion due to heat...play is adjusted by gasket shim...brake offers little resistance to forward rotation, instantly checks any tendancy to rotate bckwards under load...is adjustable to any load requirement. Only by loosing of the jam nut on the brake band anchor bolt and turn clockwise for tightening and counter clockwise for loosening reset jam nut. Lube with 3/4 pint of 80-90 SAE and grease the three fittings...only fill to the level of the oil plug...Brake Adjustment: loosen the jam nut on the brake band anchor bolt. Give the adjusting screw a half turn to the right for tightening or left for loosening and reset the jam nut. After assembly: (paraphrase) engage winch and run forward (overwind or hoisting position) one minute. touch the safety brake housing and if not heating, reverse rotation and run another minute and touch the safety brake housing again. It should begin to heat. If it gets hot reeling in, remove the safety brake housing and reverse the rotorand reassemble and check again. Hope that's helpful and readable. Have someone in the cab to shut down the beast, just in case. DJ
